Liberty Village Headshots • Leena & Co. • Toronto Portrait Photographer

I met Leena a while ago at a WPIC workshop. She contacted me and wanted to get some fun relaxed head shots done of her and her partner for their website relaunch.

When I met them I realized Harneet was not just her work partner and the ‘Co.’ in Leena & Co.  ;o) Our morning went so great! We chatted about their company, the two of them and simply enjoyed a beautiful morning in Liberty Village. The great part about Leena & Co. is that you get a bit of a ‘he said she said’ approach to event planning, which is such a fantastic thing. These two are a fierce duo!

Since we’re talking about a bit of ‘He said/She said’ here is a little Q & A with Leena & Co.

Tell us a bit about yourselves and about Leena & Co.

Leena: Event planning has always been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember, but I only recently pursued it enough to turn it into a business. I first started my communications career working in Public Relations. I worked in the corporate world for a few years before I realized that I craved something more. I’ve always been a creative person and anyone who knows me, knows that I’ve always had a passion for event planning. Earlier this year my wonderful parents celebrated 35 years of marriage, I ended up taking full charge of the event planning and execution process. It took me four months to plan, start to finish. My wonderful boyfriend and business partner Harneet was a huge part in the success of the event.

The entire process was so exciting and enjoyable for us.  The true business spark came the night of the event. As I sat back and watched our vision come together, it was the most adrenaline pumping feeling, I wish I could have bottled it up and kept it! The feedback from family and friends was overwhelming and thats evidently, when “Leena & Co.” was born.

Harneet: When I first met Leena, one of the things I truly admired about her was her drive and ambition. When she came to me with the idea of starting up a event planning company, I was 110% supportive, she then asked me how I felt about being apart of the company. I think for a couple to work together, it truly is something special. What makes us such a great team is the fact that we balance each other out. I am so proud of her!

Leena and Co launched July 1, we are a His and Her event planning company. We specialize in weddings, corporate events, special occasions and we also offer Public Relations services.

How did you get your start in wedding planning?

Leena: This may sounds cliché but, I am the biggest sap when it comes to “love.” I love, love! I am one of those girls who dreamt about her wedding day since I was a little girl, and although I am not yet married, the fact that we get to help couples plan their big day is very rewarding to us. About two years ago, I was presented with the opportunity to TV host, and one of the events I worked was a wedding show. I remember being in complete awe, I knew that it was something I wanted to do and now that its finally happening I am so excited. I wake up each morning and pinch myself.

Harneet:I got my start in the Wedding industry by joining Leena in this business venture. I’ve been to many weddings over the years, but planning them has definitely given me a different perspective.

One thing I’ve noticed in the wedding planning process is that, the bride tends to be the dominate force when it comes to the planning. With our clients we encourage both partners to have a say. I think that’s also what’s nice about being a His and Her team, we are able to understand the unique perspectives of the bride and groom and take great pride in producing an event that truly depicts their vision. We enjoy the challenge of bringing together opposite perspectives into one final masterpiece!

What is your favourite part of the job?

Leena: My favourite part of the job is working with our amazing clients. I love the fact that each couple is different. It keeps us on our toes and we enjoy the creative planning process. I also don’t mind the cake tasting! (Harneet and I are huge foodies at heart)

Harneet: My favorite part of the job is definitely the wedding day. Seeing the couples face when they witness their vision come to life is a great feeling. I enjoy hearing the bride and grooms speeches and I can’t forget the fact I get to work with Leena!

What do you like to do outside of planning fabulous events?

Leena & Harneet: In our spare time outside planning events, family time is very important to Harneet and I. We love spending time with our families. We also love to explore the city and find new places to venture to, whether its new restaurants, cafes, or places to hangout. We are full fledge city people and love our city of Toronto!

Some work days are longer than usual and can be stressful, but we manage by living a healthy and active lifestyle.

Harneet: Basically, I force Leena to the gym! 🙂

What is your recent favourite colour combo?

Leena: This season I have been loving any, and everything gold! Gold always has a way of coming across chic and elegant. You can pair it with almost any color and it looks great.

Harneet: This season we have been seeing lots of color! My style is definitely more daring. I always like to encourage our couples not to be afraid of color! Mint and grey was one of my favorite colour combinations this season.
