In 2011 for the Family Day weekend / our first date anniversary Yancy and I decided to head over to New Orleans for a few days.

Side note >>> we get to the airport and they can’t seem to find us in the system, we get sent to the customer service desk and realize that after searching many websites for an awesome deal accidentally we booked our tickets for TUESDAY March 24th not TUESDAY February 24th, so now are are at the airport, suitcases all packed ready to get on a flight that leaves in a little bit…we ask to see if there are any seats on the flight we thought we were on…yes there are…great!!…no not great, this lovely airline wants to charge us $925 for this change…NO WAY! We get on a computer to see if we can find another flight leaving from Toronto or Buffalo or anywhere that same day, since our hotel is booked, we have everything planned and are ready to go…we found a flight with an American airline for dirt cheap leaving in 3hrs…we get a credit form the other airline, and those unfilled seats stay unfilled [grrr Air Canada!]. So we are on our way!

Once we get to New Orleans, the weather is perfect for February, the city is absolutely amazing, with so much history, so much to see, a very unique vibe & culture for an American city, oodles of incredible food and the awesome atmosphere of Mardi Gras approaching.

We walked along the French Quarter, ate some amazing Creole food and stuffed ourselves with pounds of delicious oysters, visited a couple of plantations as well as the swamps, had the best collard greens I’ve ever tasted, took in some music and watched the crazy-ness of Bourbon Street, enjoyed people watching while getting powder all over ourselves from the warm beignets at Cafe Du Monde.

If you are planning a quick get away, head to New Orleans, what an incredible place. We will definitely go back to explore some more as 4 days was not enough for us, plus we’d love to vist the Tabasco Factory [yes most of our trips revolve around food].

Here is a bit of our story in photos [better late than never]. Happy Family Day weekend y’all!
